Donating a Car - Essential Free Guide For Donations of Cars, Trucks and Autos

When donating a car, there are a few things you should know. You can donate all kinds of vehicles but each has its own regulations. Remember that you'll need to pay attention to the current laws. For instance, in the US, laws were changed in 2004 that limit the used car donation tax deduction of the donor to the amount the car is eventually sold for. These laws for donations of a car will vary by country, so make sure you pay attention.

It's important to make sure the charity is eligible to receive tax deductible contributions before donating a car. If you're in the US, ask the organization for their Letter of Determination from the IRS. In any country, make sure the charity gives you a good, clear receipt that's well documented in exchange for your donation. Remember that tax agencies look closely at donations not made in the form of cash, so clearly document the value of the vehicle, and keep good records.

Complete the appropriate tax forms if your vehicle is worth more than the minimum amount. Include a written acknowledgment from the charity, and make sure you know which form to fill out. If the organization sells the car, they have thirty days to provide you with a certification in most locations.

This certification says that the parties that sold and bought the vehicle were not related to one another. If the car is not sold, a receipt must still be provided withing the appropriate time limit, and the donor must be told what the car is to be used for, and state that it is not intended for sale.

Donations of a car that has a high value must have an independent appraisal, and possibly may need additional forms. Determine market values using a Blue Book or other guide, and do so carefully. Never simply pick the highest value for year and model. Instead, pay attention to condition, mileage and other factors.

Take detailed photos of the vehicle's interior and exterior, and make sure you have receipts for repairs and upgrades you've made to help document value. Remember that you are responsible for determining the correct value for the vehicle, not the charity. Most of the time, vehicles donated to charity are sold, and you may receive only a small deduction.

Donating a car can be very useful, but it's important to remember that it isn't the best choice for everyone. Pay attention to your circumstances and your area's regulations to decide if your car should be donated.

American Diabetes Association Car Donation Program - Stop Diabetes in Its Tracks

Unfortunately, diabetes is a huge, raging epidemic in this country that affects millions of Americans and shortens millions of lives. From Type I diabetes that people are typically born with to Type II diabetes which is linked with poor diet, lack of exercise, and excessive consumption of sugar (Did you know that children are the fastest rising cases of Type II diabetes? Twenty years ago this was practically unheard of!), there is a demonstrated need for further research, prevention, and intervention treatments for those living with diabetes. And you don't need a degree or experiencing in fundraising to make a contribution. Your car donation to the American Diabetes Association(ADA) can help to save lives. In this article, you will learn more about why vehicle donation to the ADA is a worthy cause and how the dollars from your car sold at auction can help to prevent suffering from this terrible disease.

Why Your Vehicle Donation Is Needed

Every year, hundreds of thousands of Americans have diabetes related problems of all different varieties. Heart disease, strokes, the loss of the use of limbs and blindness can all be the side effects that individuals suffer that come out of having diabetes. People can lapse into diabetic comas, and can die in all sort of terrible ways, just from having a disease that is very frequently preventable and completely avoidable. And in a way, you and other people can stop this problem by making car donations to the ADA. You might be wondering how this is possible.

For one thing, by making car donations to the ADA, you facilitate research into ways to combat diabetes. The more we know about this terrible disease, the better we can nip it in the bud by discovering and treating it in the earliest stages. And beyond that, once diabetes has progressed to a level at which it becomes a serious health threat, its treatment can become downright costly. If we can stop diabetes from its roots, the problem can be averted and great health can be maintained.

How Your Vehicle Donation Supports the ADA

And you can actually help to fight this war (and yes, it is a war), just through car donations to the ADA. It really is pretty incredible how much you can do, just through giving your car to a charitable organization. Through auctioning off your car to someone who can use it to make their lives better, the ADA will take that money and use it for research and education campaigns. This, in turn, will potentially help a host of people who might later be diabetic to avoid that fate... or help to get necessary medical supplies and knowledge to those who already are. Your car can save lives!

Charitable car donation is one of the most worthwhile ways that you can give back to others in need. Learn all the ins and outs of American Diabetes Association car donation through visiting our website.

A Car Donation Can Help a Non-Profit For Women With Autism

Aside from being a great way to get rid of an old car idly sitting in your garage, a car donation can help out a charity or cause you believe in. One of these is Mandy's Farm, a non-profit organization that cares for women with autism.

Despite the fact that one out of every four people diagnosed with autism is female, women with autism have unique needs from those of men. Compared to men who are typically loud and disruptive, women with autism are quiet, passive, but not mentally absent. This makes overcoming female challenges such as menstruation or motherhood significantly harder, and that's why it is important for women with autism to have access to a group of like-minded individuals that they can relate to, and professionals who can care for them. Mandy's Special Farm is a facility that provides quality, long-term care for women with autism who will likely never live independently.

Car donations may be an uncommon way of helping out a charity, but not a lot of people are aware that these are probably one of the best ways to lend a hand to a cause they believe in. Aside from the fulfillment you get from giving comfort to others, automobile donations are easier than selling old cars that would be too expensive to refurbish.

Furthermore, a car donation can merit a tax write-off easily. All you have to do is to give the car and its corresponding documents and the company in charge of the donation will take care of all the paperwork for you. Once your vehicle is sold, you will receive an acknowledgement receipt and forms from the IRS.

Center For Car Donations is a company that depends on the generosity of others to help out worthy charitable institutions nationwide. Getting rid of an old or broken car becomes more fulfilling as the car donation can help out charities for women and children, senior citizens, education, animal rights, and so many more. To choose to a charity to benefit or to make automobile donations today, visit CenterForCarDonations.com or call its toll-free number at 1-877-411-3662.

Fraser Ford Driven To Help Northumberland Fare Share Food Banks

Northumberland Fare Share Food Banks appealed to the Northumberland community for support this season in a special "operations fund" drive - and the response to date has been tremendous. Local car dealership Fraser Ford came forward with a generous offer - the donation of a used van, provided to Northumberland's Fare Share Food Banks in order to simplify food collection and deliveries for volunteers. Until now, these volunteers have used their own vehicles to transport donations from collection points around the community to the banks. "It is our absolute pleasure to assist the Northumberland Food Share Program with the donation of this van," said Robert Fraser of Fraser Ford. "We are pleased to know that the van will be put to such good use delivering the much-needed food and nutrition to Northumberland's less fortunate families." Sign Design of Whitby has also "wrapped" the vehicle with distinctive artwork to identify it as belonging to Fare Share, as well as to visibly think the dealership for its generous sponsorship f the organization. Other major sponsors will also be acknowledged on the van. The wrap and Food Bank identity was designed by Art Director, Luke Despatie and his team from Limelight Advertising & Design. Herma's Fine Foods, Gifts & Catering came forward earlier this month with a generous donation of non-perishable items for the Fare Share Food Bank, which was gratefully accepted. Herma's also sponsored a special pre-Christmas program at the store ...

How to Fix a Scratch on Your Vehicle

With summer just around the corner, April is the time that most car owners get around to assessing their vehicle's exterior and fixing any problems that may have occurred during the winters months. In the Northeast, dents, dings and scratches are bound to happen when snow hits the ground. With a few helpful tips, even the deepest, most obvious scratches can easily be removed.

The first thing that any car owner should do when encountering a nick or scuff mark is to go to the local auto parts store and purchase the materials necessary for the job. The three main ingredients that are needed are primer, body compound and paint in your vehicle's color.

To obtain the correct shade, check your vehicle's identification number, which is stamped into the dashboard on the driver's side in most cars, according to EHow.com. Provide this number to your auto parts store and they can match the exact shade of paint for your vehicle. If possible, never choose a color using an eye test - a mismatched paint job will often look worse than the scratch itself.

After purchasing your tools for the job, wash the scratch and the surrounding area with a mild laundry detergent to remove any excess wax. Next, take a small section of sandpaper and grind away any rust that has accumulated. If the scratch is fresh, this step may be avoided.

At this point, you will want to take some masking tape and newspaper and isolate the scratch, says Christopher Bibey of Associated Content. After sealing off the area, take a plastic knife and apply body compound to the area. Make sure not to use a metal knife or you could significantly damage the paint job.

Let the body compound dry and then sand the area flat to create an even surface to paint on. Next, apply to primer to the scratch and give it time to dry.

Finally, take the smallest paint brush that you own and gently paint over the scratch. Be certain not to use too much paint or it may give the car an uneven look.

If you hang on to all of the materials that you purchase, you can fix most any scratch an no cost for the life of your automobile.

Extend Auto Warranty Coverage Without the Dealership

If you are coming up on the final days of your car's original manufacturer's warranty, and you are worried about something going wrong soon afterwards, you can relax. There are ways to extend auto warranty coverage, so that your vehicle will be covered for years to come.

You might be worried because of what the sales person told you when you purchased your new car. You did not want to add the extra expense of the extended warranty at the time, but the talk of how much repairs could cost you after the original standard manufacturer's warranty runs out did leave a pretty big impression with you. And the sales person might even have told you that, should you decide not to sign up for the extended warranty they were offering, you would never again be able to find that deal.

Well, the sales person was right, but for all the wrong reasons. You will never be able to get that same deal that was offered by your dealership at the time you purchased your car. That deal would have seen the cost of the extended warranty rolled into your financing for the initial purchase - a modification that cannot be added now. So, an extended warranty that is purchased now will have to be paid in full at a single time.

And the other reason you won't be able to get the deal that your sales person offered? Because that deal was actually more expensive. The company that provides the extended warranties for your dealership actually adds in a rather hefty sales commission for extended warranties purchased at the same time as the original car. As a result, sales people have turned up the pressure, trying to sell as many warranties as they can. By waiting, you have lost out on the "deal" that would have made your sales person a lot of money - money that, ultimately, would have come from what you paid.

So don't despair. You can buy an extended warranty after the fact. You may even end up dealing with the same third-party company that provides extended warranties to your dealership. The process to extend auto warranty coverage is relatively easy - simply shop around for the best price quotes, and make sure you read the policy before you sign. Then take a deep breath - your car is covered again, in case of part failures, just like when you first drove it off the dealer's lot.

Are You Looking for a Used Car in Minnesota?

If you are thinking about buying a used car in Minnesota or any place, you need to put a buying guide line together. By taking the time and putting a guide together to follow you will get more car for your money. If at all possible don't jump on the first car that fits your budget.

Ask yourself a few questions and write down your answer. Then start shopping for that car. Here are just a few.

1. Do you want a new car or used car?

2. Are you going to finance a car or pay cash for it?

3. What is your budget for a monthly payment?

4. Do you have any money to put down or a car to trade in as the down payment?

5. Are you looking for a monthly payment or the total amount the car is going to cost?

6. What options do you need? Power windows, A/C, CD player, Sunroof, aluminum wheels, leather, nav.system, power seats, heated seats.

7. What color do you want?

You probably can come up with more questions for yourself. Don't worry about purchasing a used car from a private party. Just make sure to ask the sellers if they have records of any past service done to the car. Do they have a private mechanic that they had the car serviced with. Ask if you can take the car to a shop and pay for an inspection. This will give you a better idea if you are getting a mechanically sound car.

If you want a warranty on your new car you need to purchase your car from a dealership. Most dealerships can offer you a warranty on used cars. Make sure you understand the warranty opinions they offer. When purchasing a car from a dealership try to wait until the end of the month to purchase it. This is the time that the dealership is trying to make monthly quotas and will negotiate more to make the deal. Call the dealership and ask them if they have a website. Check out the website and find out what they have the price listed at on the site. Most of the time you will see it listed for a lot lower price then the price on the lot. Go to NADA.com and see what the price for retail is and also check to see what your trade is worth.

The dealership probably already had the car safetied but that does not mean you cannot take it to you mechanic to inspect it also. Don't worry about it being a rental car either. I have rented cars before and never beat on them like some people will say. Take your time and you will find a great deal on the new car or used car you are looking for.

I have been selling cars since 1990 and know what it takes to get you rolling down the road in a new or used car. I can ship a vehicle any place in the continental USA. Used car in Minnesota.

Car Donation Tax Reduction

Due to unfortunate circumstances you will find that a good number of people who donate cars have been deducting a suggested retail price. This means that a dealer would get something that is below the market value when they decide to resell your trade in car.

This means that when a dealer will sell you car they will give you a certain amount of money so that you can be able to have your tax reduced.

Charities were not also making a lot of money when they were doing their car donation tax reduction. This is the reason why in the year 2005 the IRS changed the rule from what was currently happening to what will be done.

If you happen to have a vehicle that is valued more than $500, the deduction will be limited to the actual selling price of the charity.

Whoever the donor is, they must attach a statement of sale to the tax return in order to receive the deduction. Even if it is the charity, it is obligated to present the statement within thirty days.

It has been proven that no one can be able to give you your deduction amount before you have donated your car.

The main purpose of charitable car donation tax deduction is to help people know how they should go about when they decide to donate their vehicles to a charitable organization.

In the resent years many people have come to know how to go about donating their cars to the charity and they have also come to know that their donations are improving other people's lives.

It has come to a situation where it is now a fully blown business. In the United States only nearly $650 million was lowered when about quarter million people took car donation deduction on their tax return in the year 2001.

Since then many people have come to embrace the charitable car donation initiative because it is helping many poor people reduce their federal tax return every year.

To find a charity that deals or accepts car donations is very easy. What people should avoid are the Profitable organizations that pose as non profitable charity organizations which are basically out to corn people out of their money.

Charitable Car Donation Centers

The main purpose of charitable car donation is to help people know how they should go about when they decide to donate their vehicles to a charitable car donation organization.

In recent years, many people have come to know how to go about donating their cars to the charity and they have also come to know that their donations are improving other people's lives.

This makes an individual feel good about his/her self because of helping the needy in the society. Over $650 million has been lowered in form of tax because nearly 200,000 people in the United States took a car donation deduction on their tax return.

That was just for the year 2000, Since then many people have opted for this initiative because when they donate a car they are able to settle a part of their federal tax returns and at the same time improve lives of majority of the poor people in the community.

Any one intending to take their cars to charitable car donation centers, should avoid the profit oriented organizations whose main aim I to pervasively handle the car donations.

People who have worked with such organizations in the past confess that the organizations tend to keep almost 50% of the total car's value and there are even those that keep as much as 90% or even more.

This makes the whole idea of giving the money raised after the sale back to the charity seam like one big joke.

So if a donor can by any means find a charity that can handle the whole car transaction by themselves, then they can be able to keep the whole 100% of the profit and by doing so the money goes to help those who need it the most.

After donating the car to the charity of your choice, the charity must then prepare a written statement of what they intend to do with the donated car. If the charity decides to sell the car, then it must sell it at a price that is below market value.

The charity might as well decide to make some improvement on the donated car. This means that the car should not be sold before the said improvements are done.

The agreement about the charitable car donation should be written down with full details of the donor and the charity organization for future references.

Protecting Investments From Capital Gains Tax

It is widely believed that we will find ourselves with capital gains tax increased from the current 18% to as much as 40-50%, with the gain added to income. This will have two possible impacts on the housing market.

Consider how you can achieve returns on an investment property. There is a potential income and a potential capital increase. The risks lie with the possibility of a lack of occupancy affecting the income and property prices falling.

And so the potential for gain will have to offset this potential for loss.

How can the government expect us to become excited about investing in property where the income on the property is taxed at the highest rate and the gain on sale will also be taxed at the highest rate.

The potential for gain is so diminished that investors will be discouraged from investing at all.

The concern is that this will stifle demand (why would you buy) which will then lead to a fall in markets. As we are a debt driven economy each fall in house prices directly impacts consumer confidence and in turn spending on the high street which is a large impact on GDP (the economy).

There is also the potential however that property investors realise they cannot sell their house due to the tax and so supply is greatly reduced and counterbalances the market. We will see.

Investors who normally buy shares, property and unit trusts, Oeics will be subject to the new capital gains hikes and so should look to realise some gains where they can, to crystallise them in this tax year pre budget.

After that budget the canny planning will begin. Consider however, what you can do right now.

Isas are tax free so you should maximise them and if you have a pension and are a higher rate tax payer, consider making a contribution now as higher rate tax relief will probably disappear.

In the meantime, there is a tax efficient vehicle that many investors are missing out on. That is the offshore bond. Before you think 'Cayman islands,' this is simply a normal investment bond which is held in tax beneficial regions such as the Isle of man, Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey. Norwich union or Standard Life may have a UK life office but they also have an offshore version in one of these tax constituencies.

The effect/benefit is that the investments do not pay tax as they grow and you benefit from compounding gross roll up of growth.

You can buy the same property and shares inside the bond as you can outside of it but they simply grow free of tax.

Investments are taxed as income rather than capital gains tax and so the gain at encashment is added to your income. However this is where you can potentially save.

Investment bonds allow you to assign parts of them to others who have a lower tax rate than you. For example if a segment of your investment bond was assigned to your child who was going to university and they encashed it, the gain would be added to their income for the year.

If their income tax allowance was, say £6475 (the government are talking about increasing the income tax allowance to over £10,000) and the bond was encashed with a £13000 value but the gain was less than £6475, there would be no tax to pay.

This is an excellent way to achieve tax free growth and tax free distribution, particularly if the government are signposting that income tax allowances will increase substantially.

Another option is to become non resident for a year and then encash and you will not be subjected to UK income tax.

Make sure you use a fee based independent financial adviser as the commissions (often disguised) on bonds are very high at c8%, but also a 2-3% fee to an adviser is far more efficient than a 2-3% commission on an offshore bond due to how the life office can reclaim that expense.

If you have a query on annuities, CGT offshore bonds, tax or property in tax efficient wrappers call Peter on 0845 230 9876

Hanga Abbey: A Model of Hope 1 of 5

Hanga Abbey: A Model of Hope Approximately two years ago, Father Pirmin Ngolle, the former Associate Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Klamath Falls Oregon, dispersed a DVD to our parish made by Christian missionaires, Mark and Judith Upton, called "Hanga Abbey: A Model of Hope." He felt the DVD accurately conveyed the needs of his home country. Father Pirmin's apostolic mission was working for the poor, raising money and collecting goods in the United States for his people in Tanzania, East Africa. The Clean Water Project was Father Pirmin's great love. I first remember hearing about this project when Father Pirmin was traveling through the parishes of Oregon raising money to purchase water pipes. The pipes are used to carry water off the surrounding mountains, into the villages. He said many people in East Africa go their entire lives without ever tasting fresh drinking water, and as a result, there was a high mortality rate secondary to water-borne diseases, such as Malaria. Through Father Pirmin's efforts, many villages in Tanzania, today, have fresh drinking water. The mortality rate has dropped dramatically. His efforts saved lives. "Hanga Abbey: A Model of Hope" is a testimony to Father Pirmin Ngolle's life mission: that of giving hope to his people. That is why we've dedicated this wonderful documentary to our very dear brother-in-Christ, Father Pirmin Caspary Ngolle, who died in a car accident in Africa in the Winter of 2007 while working for the poor. The NASCAR Foundation

A good organization supports charity and NASCAR does just that through it's NASCAR foundation. The NASCAR foundation has a program where for a $30 donation you can join in on the NASCAR track walk. The Home Depot, one of the nation's largest retail home improvement centers, is a major sponsor of the promotions and holds charitable events with proceeds going to the Foundation. But who does the Foundation support and what kinds of events do they hold to raise funds?

One thing they do is sponsor auctions where the proceeds go to one of the foundations supported by the NASCAR foundation. For example, on September 17, 2007, they announced bidding on Jeff Gordon full-sized and autographed fiberglass auto body. The proceeds from this auction go to the Jeff Gordon Foundation which supports pediatric medical care of children with serious and life-threatening disease.

The NASCAR foundation holds the Blood and Marrow Drives at different tracks each year. The donations help out the Jimmie Johnson Foundation and the Hendrick Marrow Program. Other charities of the NASCAR Foundation are:

The Dale Earnhardt Foundation

This is a foundation run by the wife of the racing great who died in a race car crash in 2001. Dale Earnhardt was concerned about education, children, and wildlife and his commitment lives on through this foundation.

The Kyle Petty Charity Ride

Kyle Petty is the son of the King of NASCAR Richard Petty and he sponsors a motorcycle ride across the USA for the Victory Junction Gang Camp as well as other children's charities.

Victory Junction Gang Camp

This is an organization with the mission of helping to enrich the lives of children with serious illnesses by providing them a camping experience in a medically-safe environment. It was founded by Kyle Petty and his wife Pattie in June 2004. The couple also donated the land that the camp stands on today. The camp is interesting because it was built with a racing theme and all the look of a NASCAR race track. The camp takes cash donations and there are volunteer opportunities. It is also gives a quilt and a teddy bear to each child who stays there so they are always looking for donations of these two items to replenish their supply.

NASCAR Auto Donation Program

There are many ways to donate to the NASCAR foundation. One way is through the NASCAR Auto Donation program. Here, you can donate a vehicle and then any of the proceeds that the NASCAR Auto Donation program gets from the proceeds in an auction are given to charity. All donations are fully tax deductible.

The NASCAR Day Telethon

This was a telethon held on May 18, 2007 across from Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Speed Channel, NASCAR, and Sirius radio broadcasted this telethon event through the end of the Craftsman Truck Series Race.

There are many other charitable organizations supported by the NASCAR Foundation but it is obvious that NASCAR cares about contributing to the community which is probably one of the reasons why this sport is becoming increasingly popular.

How to Donate Your Car Or Truck to Vietnam Veterans

What exactly is a Vietnam Veteran? By definition, a Vietnam Veteran describes someone who served in the Vietnam War.

Why is a Vietnam Vet so important?

They sacrificed their lives for our country. However, many protested the war arguing the war was wasteful and was killing innocent people including children. Regardless, members of our society fought for us. Sadly, many Veterans returned to their homes in different mental and physical states of mind. Some returned physically disabled and some had memories that they have not overcome even today.

"Many Veterans still have nightmares of their experiences today. In addition, approximately 30% of the homeless are Veterans."

That is why your donation is so important. One of the emerging types of donations Vietnam Veterans are accepting is car donations. Donating your car is easy online. Simply fill out an online form and the organization will schedule a free tow of your vehicle. Your vehicle can be picked up in 24-48 hours. The main benefits of donating your car to Veterans are:

  1. Proceeds go to Vietnam Veterans.

  2. Donor receives IRS tax deduction.

  3. Your car is then sold to someone in need. Some people have no method of transportation to work.

  4. Helps the environment. Instead of giving your car to a junkyard, donate you car to someone in need. Charities accept running and non-running vehicles.

  5. Avoid the hassle of selling your car. In some cases, your tax deduction can be worth more than your car's selling price.

Donating your old car or truck will benefit everyone involved.

Donate your car online

We accept all types of vehicles. Including vans, trucks, conversion vans, boats, motorcycles and buses. After donating your car, you will receive a tax deductible receipt so you can add the deduction to your tax return.

How to Get More From Your Bike by Using a Cargo Trailer

In the US the bicycle is still thought by many as a child's toy, however this is increasingly changing. In the late 1800's and early 1900's cycling was a larger spectator sport than baseball. There were far more bicycle on the road in the early 1900's than automobiles. Much of the road improvement and map improvement of the early 20th century was due to the efforts of cyclists.

Up until the time Henry Ford decided to begin a production line for automobiles and the horseless carriage became a viable option for many people that could not afford one before his revolutionary idea, he bicycle was pretty much the same in the US as in other western countries like France, England and Holland.

With the surge of automobiles on the road and the increasing speeds of cars more and better roads became needed. Once the automobile was firmly entrenched the bicycle was relegated by most into being a child's toy. After WWII there were lots of bicycles but they were for the most part children's bikes. A child would ride his bike until he was old enough to get a Driver's License then the bike would be sold or trashed.

Fuel costs for autos were low, and oil seemed plentiful early in the 20th century. Oil fields were found in Ohio in the late 1800's and in Texas, Oklahoma, and many other western states including Alaska in the 20th Century. Things looked pretty good for Auto Manufacturers and not so hot for cyclists.

Today however we are seeing a strong comeback by cyclists. Bikes are cheap, oil is expensive. At 2.60 for a gallon of gas than will get you 20 miles or less in most cars and a bicycle that will get you the same distance and in big cities often quicker for almost no cost you can see why the bicycle is making a comeback.

There are numerous advantages of the bicycle over the car. Most obvious is probably fuel cost, and others include lower repair costs, lower replacement costs, and improved health and fitness for the rider. With the cost of fuel way up and the cost of autos in general being fairly high, cycling is getting more and more popular.

There are some unfortunate disadvantages to using the bicycle as transportation. If you go to the grocery and you drive your car, you can buy a load of groceries but if you are on a bicycle you are limited to what you can carry. You can expand your cargo space by use of a basket, panniers, or my favorite the bicycle trailer.

The bicycle trailer comes in several models some have one wheel that trails right behind the back wheel of the bike. The single wheel type is often used by people doing bicycle tours and cross country riding. These tend to be smaller trailers and are usually used to carry clothing, small tents and such. They are not my choice for getting a load of groceries or running errands.

I personally have a two wheel trailer I purchased in 2002 and use quite often; in fact I pulled it in the Lee County Christmas Parade in Leesburg Georgia with the people from Chehaw BMX. The type I have is one that will actually carry 3 small children, two toddlers or one probably 6 year old in the seat. The seat folds down to make a cargo trailer and I have used that thing to carry lots and lots of cargo.

In 2002 I did a fundraising bicycle ride for the South Georgia Food Bank in Albany Georgia. On November 11, 2002 I rode my bicycle pulling that trailer from Sylvester Georgia down Highway 82 to Tifton Georgia and back. People would stop and put non perishable food in the trailer or give me cash donations. That day I collected two large boxes of food and 287.00 for the food bank. I had placed cardboard signs on the trailer and people would read them as they drove by and when they seen me in a parking lot they would stop to give me donations. Even the Mayor of Tifton Georgia at the time chipped in with 20.00 when I met him at Veteran's Park in Tifton.

That trailer has been used to haul my grandkids all over the place, they are too old now to ride in it, but it still gets plenty of use. My wife uses it to go shopping. I use it to help me get faster on my bike. I will load it down with about 50lbs of weight then ride it as fast as I can up and down the bike trail, usually about 15 to 20 miles at somewhere near 15 to 20 MPH. Then when I get on the road bike with no load I can hit 20 to 22 MPH with actually what feels like less effort than riding the mountain bike with the trailer.

The trailer I have does have a cover so if it would rain the groceries or what is in the trailer won't get soaked and with the extra room in the trailer you can carry some rain gear so the rider doesn't get soaked too bad either.

There are however numerous styles of bicycle trailers now available. There are ones that are strictly for cargo. They have a flat bed and sides and can handle loads up to 150 lbs.

I was just looking at one recently that was made to pull handicapped adults around in. Since my youngest son is handicapped and can only walk short distances we are considering at some point getting one for him, so he can enjoy a ride with my wife and I.

I was in Orlando a short time back at Michael Pen land's Internet Marketing Conference. And there was a young lady riding her bicycle down the street pulling a trailer that looked as if it would hold two adults. There was no one in that trailer, but it appeared to be a sort of bicycle taxi.

I read a couple years back where UPS was actually hiring cyclist to deliver packages in some of the western states to save on fuel and make their deliveries quicker, they were using hybrid bikes with cargo trailers.

You can definitely expand the usability of your bicycle by adding a bicycle trailer.

More About Car Donations and Car Donation Tips

Car donation is the act of giving away unwanted cars to various charity organizations. Charitable donations offer tax benefits. It has become a popular practice in the United States already. For valuations fewer than 500 US dollars, the value of tax deduction arrive from the donor's own estimation of car value, even though the charity obtains less money from advertisings or via selling the car.

The deduction over the maximum amount is partial to the on-sale amount of the vehicle. Several critics have maintained that this is effectively for tax shelter. However, the non-profit organizations in the United States have come to increasingly rely upon the revenue of automobile donations. The charitable deed has become progressively more widespread in the United States. In year 2000, about 733,000 taxpayers had reduced their taxes by up to 654 million US dollars.

Several charities run various donation programs. Others have their own automobile lots where they sell the donated automobiles. Meanwhile, several others have their donations processed throughout the auto auction company. Other processing units also sell and collect donated automobiles and distribute the money to the charity indicated.

The processing company usually takes a percentage of the sale value of the automobile but these programs permit charities, without their staff or facilities dedicated to automobile donation fundraising benefiting from their vehicle donation programs.

Warnings

Several charities might ask you to sign over your car blank to facilitate the transaction by not making them retile your automobile. Unfortunately, you can be responsible for crimes that can be later committed or for traffic tickets after you have forgotten your gift to the charity. If the charity tries to convince you to do this, pick another organization instead.

Potential

Donating your automobile to charity is an eye opener for you, making real differences in the lives of many less fortunate people. You receive tax deductions and free towing automobiles. Much more than this is the satisfactory feeling you contributed to the betterment of society.

Car Donation Tips

Here are tips on how to get the biggest tax deduction from car donation. Understand that the IRS or Internal Revenue Service revised the law about how much you could deduct on your tax return. It is up to the taxpayer to decide how much his contributions are worth. Now, the charity should certify the selling price of the automobile. The maximum amount of the deduction is about 500 US dollars.

Make sure the charity you select is eligible to get your tax-deductible donation. Ask the charity to give you a letter of determination from the IRS and also obtain a signed receipt from the charity when you give it the keys.

Keep a good record of your donations such as vehicle numbers since the IRS is looking guardedly at this kind of donation.

If your donations surpass about 500 US dollars, limit your donation to the amount to which the car was brought at auction. The charity should certify to you in writing the amount of sale price, and it should further be done within 30 days or 1 month of the sale. If the charity does not mean to advertise or sale the automobile, it should give you a receipt for the car and confirm their plans for the car.

Get independent appraisals for cars worth more than 5,000 US dollars. Be honest with its condition and mileage because the IRS will check them for accuracy.

Automobiles And Car Donation

In the primitive age, in the absence of automobiles, domestic animals were the only means by which it was possible for one to travel across distances. Cars were a much later invention and with the coming of automobiles, the whole idea of traversing form one end of the country to other was revolutionized greatly. In the contemporary world, possession of an automobile is a basic necessity and having a personal car is of great help in times of emergency when getting hold of a public vehicle becomes difficult. It has been noticed that at present, automobile manufacturers usually present new car designs quite frequently and therefore many consumers are seen to dump their previous vehicle and opt for a latest design. Moreover, there can be various other reasons because of which can owner may decide to give up his presently owned vehicle in favor of something new. Under such circumstances car donation seems to be a very lucrative option for such car owners. The process of car donation refers to the means by which it is possible to donate such vehicles which will not be used any more by the owner and give them up to charity organizations.

The act of car donation is extremely popular in the United States of America because in this country car donation also ensures certain tax benefits to the car owners thus making it an extremely lucrative option. These donated vehicles are auctioned by the charity organizations and the tax benefits depend upon the sale price of the car. In fact it is also noted that for car values being less than $500, it is possible to gain tax benefits upon the estimated sale price of the car that is designated by the car owner, irrespective of the fact that whether the car is actually sold at a much lower price in the auction conducted by the charities. Such a process is referred to by many critics as 'tax shelter'. Statistics have revealed that in the United States , more than 7 lakh tax payers were able to save about $654 million by means of such car donation.

There are certain guidelines that the donor needs to keep in mind in case of investing in car donation. One must be aware of the final sale price of the car achieved in the auction conducted by the charities and obtain a written proof of the amount that is given to the auction processor and how much is handed over to the charity organization.

One should donate car to charity to help those in need.
